Teamwork Makes the Dream Work…AKA what you say WILL be brought back and used against you!

In our house we believe in teamwork. Even since dating we always called ourselves #TeamBesti (Besti = Ben + Misti) …aww…moving on. We are teaching our kids that we are part of a team – a family – and we must work together to accomplish certain goals, etc. A pastor friend of mine used to always say “Teamwork makes the dreamwork” so we’ve used that catchphrase with our kids because it’s memorable.

The other day, my husband was getting our kids dinner. Now, this should go without saying, but we generally don’t give our kids scalding hot food items, yet, it’s amazing to me that their food is always so hot! So, we did what any rational parent would do and taught them to “blow on it”. That worked at first, they thought it was fun…now they’re always trying to get one of us to do it for them. On this instance my oldest, 5 years of age going on 25, was being insistent. My husband told her to “blow on it” and in a very loud defiant voice she yells out “TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!” In all my parenting wisdom I burst out laughing from the other room…at least she’s catching on to the idea?!?!? His response was a gracious, my part was to make the food and bring it to you, yours is to blow on it!

Aside from a little chuckle and a funny story to remind her of one day, it reminded me that they are always listening and to check my immediate responses to things in the moment.

What are some funny things your kids have repeated?
